President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Minister of Water Resources, Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, Chairman of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), succeeding Musa Sarkin Adar who has been redeployed to become the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, made the announcement in a statement, saying both appointments and redeployments are effective immediately.
The moves, he said, are aimed at boosting transparency, accountability and efficient service delivery in key sectors.

The appointment underscored a strategic shift designed to leverage his experience in enhancing transparency in Nigeria’s extractive industries.
The President urged the new officials to serve with patriotism and to utilise their extensive experience to foster transparency and improve service delivery within their respective agencies.
