National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Comrade Jaliu Aliu Charanchi, has said the timing of the 2027 elections, which falls with the month of Ramadan, will lead to voter apathy in the North.
According to him, political activity is something that requires a lot of energy, which Muslims wouldn’t have because they would be fasting, as well as praying to seek the face of God.
“It’s not only the Muslim community that would be affected, even the Christian community. Because when you are going to the Muslim communities campaigning, at least you need some people that are energetic, that have the capacity, that have the morale and the energy to promote that campaign exercise.

“So, it is very wrong, because it’s definitely going to affect the outcome of the election, because there is going to be a general election apathy since many Muslims cannot participate as they don’t have the strength and they don’t have the energy.
“Some will devote their time particularly to the worship of Allah and their repentance to God Almighty, especially the last 10 days of Ramadan.
“In fact, a lot of Muslims will not even be in the country. Some of them will go for the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
“The timing is very wrong, and I think we need to rethink over it and reschedule it so that it will suit every person in the country,” Charanchi said.
