The Ndegwu community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State was thrown into mourning on Monday, as two of its youths, Emeka Mbah from Umuejekubi, Umuahum, and Chigbo Odionye from Umuadi Umuogwuta were struck dead by thunder.
A source from the community, who made the disclosure to Daily Sun, said both victims and others were busy working at a new sight in the community when the incident occurred.
The thunder was said to have struck the two of them and two others working at the sight, but the other two were said to be lucky as they were just narrowly buried by the thunder. While the deceased were taken to a nearby hospital by youths of the community, the other two managed to get up and returned to their homes with little bruises.
Meanwhile, a reliable source from the community told Daily Sun that a white ram was earlier noticed moving around the community, which they said was a bad omen.
“We saw a white ram moving up and down. That was not a good omen at all, and it did not take long before the thunder struck and killed the two youths. Nobody expected the light thunder to kill them, the rain was not much, and the thunder was not heavy. We are still wondering what really happened; its the first time such would happen.”
Meanwhile, the wives of the two victims have expressed sadness over the development. One of them who is still nursing a six-month-old baby has remained devastated since the incident occurred.
Another case was said to have been recorded at Umuoba, Orogwe, also in Imo State, same day when thunder struck an automobile electrician, simply known as Edi. He has since been buried according to the source.
