Three people were killed in renewed clashes in the Maiyanga district of the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday.

Sources revealed that the victims were waylaid and killed by gunmen as they returned from Kwall, also in Bassa.

A resident of the Maiyanga community, Danlami Dangu, said the incident occurred around 7 pm.

“The people were killed at Maiyanga while returning from Kwall around 7 o’clock on Monday evening,” he said. “The killers used machetes to avoid attracting the attention of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) personnel stationed in Maiyanga, about two kilometres from the attack location.”

He gave the names of the victims as Bala Ruhuwie, Gawah Gudu, and Na’ago (surname unknown).

Sources also revealed that the presence of soldiers stationed in the area helped to prevent a reprisal.

The spokesman for OPSH, Major Samson Zhakom, said he was yet to be briefed by the sector commander when contacted. He promised to provide information on the incident but had not done so at the time of writing.
