This Mad(hi) disease from the North

MEN O PULSE

The greatest affliction of a people is the preponderance of intemperate bigots, masquerading as activists. These pretentious tribesmen often don the ill-fitting garb of statesmen, especially in a country like ours where dishonour is honourable.

Nigerians have just been served a hot bowl of hateful fura, brewed in the sooted mind of a Madhi Shehu, an activist activating deceit and subterfuge. He is too hasty to forget the dramatic medical fraud he foisted on the courts not long ago like a heist from marauding armed robbers.

Indeed, like a bandit, Mahdi mentally assaulted the court and violently compelled its leniency to himself and still got away with it instead of being quarantined for contempt. It is unbelievable that despite his disreputable act, even leading congregational prayer without qualms soon after playing that fast one on the court, such a man could even delve into matters of faith, without scruples. No wonder he found it so easy to reel out lies about how northern Christians are treated in the South. Well, this is Nigeria where crudity is the ladder to ‘glory’.

Well, it is not surprising that Mahdi is at his fraudulent best again. He spewed incalculable lies against the South before a gathering of mostly northern Christians.

However, like the master stageman who knows how best to deliver on his make-believe, he could not be deterred by the incredulous looks on the faces of his audience, as he reeled out his cockeyed tales by moonlight.

This lover of northern Christians hails from Kaduna but has never raised a voice against the atrocious ethnic cleansing going on in southern Kaduna where Christians are domiciled. Perhaps, this lover of northern Christians never heard of Deborah Samuel, the Christian lady that was roasted by fellow students in Sokoto. Even Leah Sharibu, the innocent schoolgirl, who is still held in the capitivity of Madhi’s Muslim brothers because she refused to renounce her Christian credential never got a look in by this lover of northern Christians. Even when the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed northern Christians with disdain,  Mahdi’s voice was sealed in macadam.

Mahdi’s conspiratorial silence in all the obviously targeted attacks on Christians in the North and his sudden open profession of love for them is laughable. His imprimatur could be sighted in all this except that, unlike Saul of the Bible, he was not brave enough to raise his hand as an accomplice, which is what everyone of them that failed to condemn the evils is. Poor Mahdi, this drama of his was poorly scripted, amateurish in delivery, dumb and unimpressive.

Of a truth, Mahdi suddenly became a lover of northern Christians because of his discomfort that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has risen like a whirlwind, scattering all political permutations. In confusion, Madhi has unconsciously stripped the mask on his face and bared his fangs; now we know exactly who he truly is.

With the likes of Madhi still roaming wild and free and the silence of hate speech trumpeters, tomorrow is bleak for Nigeria.

Come to think of it, why is Mahdi’s North the poverty epicentre of this country? Why is this North a drag on the country? Why has this North virtually crippled its own people and unleashed terror bred inside almajiri pots on the country? Why is it that the North’s contribution to other sections of the country is an army of beggars and devil-may-care okada riders, even when the North has ruled this country for most of the time? Why does Mahdi think a southern Christian President would be a problem for the North when northern Muslim Presidents have overly crushed their people? Does it not make sense for the northerners to try their luck in the South, even if he is a Christian, since their brother northerners failed them savagely?

I think this is what made Mahdi desperate because he sees the wind of change surging towards the North to bring down the old order and decay. He sees the end coming for hegemonic demons that bind the people. He sees the wool dropping from the eyes of emasculated northerners, irrespective of faith. He sees an Obi as a threat to the status quo and so resorted to ungodly tactics.

It is either Madhi has not been to the South or he is being economical with the truth or saying what he does not know. He needs to ask northern Christians how their southern brethren actually relate with them. Conversely, he needs to tell us how the North as a people or government treats Christians, whether northern or southern. He also needs to tell us how the North treats southern Muslims, reason many fear was responsible for deviously imposing a Muslim-Muslim ticket on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC to checkmate his chances and retain power in their North unbeknown that ‘Obi is coming.’

Is it not funny that Mahdi sees a vote for Obi as a vote for Biafra? How puerile could that be? Could Obi as President decree Biafra into existence; what happens to the National Assembly? And, by the way, what is wrong with Biafra? Has this same Mahdi not allegedly canvassed that Nigerians should go their separate ways? Incidentally, Obi has never said such a thing.

Rather, he is on a mission to salvage the sinking ship of state. This Obi is not Peter Obi, as Mahdi in his madness understands it. This Obi is an institution, a movement for a new reality, the true change that Nigeria desires and deserves. This Obi is the snap of the chain the Mahdis shackled the people to.

Mahdi also does not know that Biafra is not an Igbo matter. Biafra is a symbol for the fight against repression across the land whether in the North or South, a repression that gave birth to Boko Haram and its fellow evil children that Mahdi is desperate to preserve, but never again will the ancients prevent the light of the nation from shining.

Even his recent delirious rambling on the bombing of Bagauda Kaltho and America’s secret service after so many years of silence, just to save the neck of kidnap-for-ransom negotiator, Tukur Mamu, throws up another side of the ‘activist’ Mahdi. It does appear that Mahdi has a self-exaggerated view of his diminutive psyche. He does not know that he is a minion pretending to be a giant but now it is time to prove his mettle, he whittles into blackmail and perfidy.

Every kingdom or king that rises against Christians and God’s covenant children in Nigeria must crumble!

Nigerians can no longer be spoon-fed by selfish vermin feasting on the people’s misfortune.

Madhi and his ilk are part of the problem of this country. He is supposedly modern but deeply ancient in his ways and thoughts. It is time he realised that the game is up for all those holding Nigeria down. It is all over for those using divide and rule to keep the country in doldrums for their selfish ends. It is time Nigerians chose their own leader without imposition and manipulation. If they like, let them choose Obi or Abubakar Atiku or Tinubu but nobody should try to manipulate the outcome of voting anymore lest calamity befalls this country.

We are in a democratic era and Mahdi needs not to fret as long the votes count. Whoever wins the presidency next year is fine as long as he wins freely and fairly. It is only if it is otherwise that Mahdi really has a lot to worry about.

The North’s problem is neither Christian nor Peter Obi nor Biafra. It is neither the South nor Yoruba nor Tinubu. The North’s problem is the North poisoned by the wasps of greedy and selfish ‘leaders’ like Mahdi, whose strength or relevance is derived from subjugating fellow northerners. The people’s eyes are now open and that’s why all over the North Obi is reigning; Tinubu too.

So, Mahdi is desperately clawing at any available straw to stop the regime change. Unfortunately, the twig has snapped and I see the Mahdis tumbling into the open mouths of the nebulous sea, which ducks them into its womb, never again to be remembered. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
