Tall and handsome actor cum model, Tobi Bakre was an investment banker before he rose to fame as a finalist in the Big Brother Naija reality TV show in 2018. Born on June 1, 1994 to the family of six, he was educated at University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he graduated with a Second Class Honours Upper Divi- sion in Banking and Finance.
While in school, Bakre fell in love with photography and was also passionate about soccer. After graduation, however, he worked in the banking sector for some years. He also worked in the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in Abuja.
After emerging the first runner-up in the BBNaija reality show, Tobi Bakare inked ambassadorial deals with top corporate organisations and unique brands, like Unilever, Jumia and Amstel Malta. He later became an actor and rose fast as a social media influencer.
He is reputed for his excellent role interpretation in award winning movies and series, like Funke Akindele’s Jenifa’s Diary, Hustle (2018), Mokalik (2018), Fix Us (2019), Sugar Rush (2019), Phases (2019), and Lara of Lagos (2020), among others.
In 2020, Bakre unveiled his fiancée, Anu Oladosu, also a UNILAG graduate and campus queen in a dance challenge video he posted on his Instagram page. A year after, precisely on Saturday, August 22, 2021, he consummated the affair at a colourful wedding ceremony attended by top celebrities including music and movies stars.
In an effusive love note attached with the couple’s photo and posted on his social media page, Tobi Bakre stated: “It’s so beautiful to love and be loved… I prayed and you came. You are here! Hence, I know I’m blessed. I’m forever happy because it only gets better.”
In December 2021, the couple welcomed their first baby, a son christened Malik.
While celebrating the arrival of the child, which coincided with the end of the year, Bakre waxed lyrical on his Instagram handle.
He wrote: “If I had to write a perfect 2021, couldn’t have written a better end- ing than this; love you son 30/12/21 in the books forever. Happy new year from me and mines.”
For his consistency and perfect role delivery, he is The Sun Nollywood Icon of the Year 2023.
