The second coming of IGP Egbetokun

His first appointment  on the 19th of June, 2023,  as  the 21st  indegenous Nigerian  lnspector General of Police, which  eventually  culminated into his first outing as the lGP, was  generally adjudged as  not being  very impressive  ,while many others see it as another official jamboree and an opportunity created for a Loyalist to hold a position. However, it is now clear that the man Kayode Egbetokun, who was reappointed on the 6th of September, 2024,  must have learnt many lessons by correctly dotting the earlier missing ‘is’ and correctly  crossing the ‘ts’.  He is  like the man who had  prepared for a long journey only to set out on the long journey and remembered that  he would need his cutlass to arm and guard himself against any dangerous animals.

So, after embarking on the journey, he suddenly remembered that he needed his cutlass. Indeed, his understanding of the importance of the journey has suddenly dawned on him. The question is, could it be that the president who earlier  appointed  saw some good qualities in him, that was why he returned him to complete the assignment the second time because the allotted time was not enough . Could this be the reason for the second chance ?. Second chance is preparatory time to improve on whatever mistakes that had earlier happened.

Second chance is trying time. It is a time of reckoning. A time when every second counts. A time when every eyes are focused on you. These eyes are focused on you monitoring every step you take and carefully  read meanings to every statements and actions. It is a time of extreme carefulness. A time when even your  colleagues who were eyeing the number one seat would be exhibiting their grievances in many ways, it is a time  to make amends. It is a time to seriously check the excesses of the numerous task forces setup, with other security squads set up for various operational agenda. It is time to set up a high powered team to address every  official complains emanating from policing administrative system. It is a  time to revisit the errors of the past like non compensation to every victim of the force headquaters terrorist attack on Thursday 16th June 2011

It is not a time to show off neither is it time to suppress others ethnically or religiously. It is a time to right every wrong in the system administratively and operationally. It is a time to be careful of banana peels from either within or outside the force.  It is not a time to be unmindful by exhibiting nonchalance. Indeed, it is a time to carry every police men and women along the path of reconciliation.  What of renewing the old tradition of end of year get together, where the old and new, the retired and the serving officers gather together as a reunion to rub minds together. Afterall it is said that iron  sharpens iron. Impressively, the tide has changed and operational security records and Nigerians are applauding the activities of the police at every level.

Of note is the police commissioner for FCT Mr Tunde Disu who recently urged Abuja residents to enjoy there Christmas without any fear. The result of this dint of hard work are pointer to a leader who has realized his mistakes and errors with a determination to leave behind a reference based legacy.( To be continued)

Beware of fraudsters and scammers (2)

The lady Monica Lewensky is not a lady to be emulated considering her bad record there are many ladies who are either hired or procured to destroy humanity for various reasons, either for revenge, pecuniary benefit or innate behaviour. These are demon possessed with the ulterior motive to Kill or Destroy there victims. Even the Bible made reference to evil women like Jezebel and Delilah. Of recent, Currently in Nigeria a dangerous trend pervading the society where some young girls and women form a clique of blackmailers.

They employ their notorious endowment to snare and frame up highly placed men and sometimes their fellow women for pecuniary advantages and gains. All vices are deployed in this trade. Some do this for pecuniary reasons, some out of frustration, some out of poverty. Some vent their anger and spleen on innocent  personalities. Radio stations in Abuja have anchored programmes hosting  a young lady who gave her name as Destiny Thomas who has deployed her frustration in various ways and at various violent scenarios.

There is another Destiny (Destiny Ojo) Both people called Destiny have so many things in common, both are Nigerians with Destiny Thomas (37) a young lady resident in Nigeria while Destiny Ojo (21) is a young man studying in the United Kingdom. Ojo Allegedly spearheaded a violent attack on an 18 year old victim. For this he was sentenced to seven years in prison for “violent disorder” by the Leicester Crown Court ( The Nation Friday December 6th, 2024). The case was successfully investigated by the use of CCTV by the London police. I recall IGP Sir Mike Okiro, urging and later convincing President Musa Yar’Adua to approve introduction of CCTV Into The Policing system Starting with Abuja in the first instance. The President took his advice and contract was awarded. Where are we today, more than fifteen years down the line. The question is Where are the CCTV’S?

Unfortunately Destiny Thomas and her brother Justice Thomas were harbored by  Philantropist. It was Alleged That Destiny quarreled with Everyone living in the residential courters; she Allegedly fought with the girls living with her in the guest house. And her benefactor consequently evicted her and her brother out of his house. While packing out, she stole  properties belonging to others. The matter was reported to a police station. While in their newly rented house, she quarreled with her brother and inflicted grevious harm on his leg. This case also went to police station and she was charged to court. Their family members prevailed on her brother to withdraw the case from court and pack out of the house to avoid being murdered by her later. The brother heeded  and moved out. Destiny, in furtherance of her violent and indomitable character had issues with her landlady, locked up the house, after her rent has expired, seize the key and secured another accommodation somewhere else. In this her recent abode she has already develop enemity and bad blood between her and her co-tenant, and between her and the electricity supplier.

Frustration could lead one to so many innuendoes and regrettable actions, Destiny Thomas (37+) is still battling with her Industrial Training (IT) leading to her Ordinary National Diploma (OND) while her younger brother ( she is senior to him with another sibling in between them) has graduated, done his NYSC, working and preparing for his Masters degree. Even in her Polytechnic he created a bad incident that resulted in the suspension and investigation of two lecturers and rustification for her classmates for one session.

Her brother, Justice Thomas while live on Radio stated that his sister, Destiny possesses a physcological disorder and that she needed help.

The Government and public spirited individuals should wake up to this clarion call and assist before it becomes too late. She is already displaying signs of imminent danger to herself and society both in criminality and violence. We should not wait till she kills somebody and goes to prison, commit suicide or is killed in a fight with another person. A stitch in time saves nine.

There are many of such Destinies out there.(Endes)
