Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has pledged to look into the construction of the Makurdi-Naka Road in Gwer West Local Government Area and other priority roads across the state with a view to taking prompt action.
Alia made the pledge during his statewide Thank-You Tour, where he engaged stakeholders from the Gwer East/Gwer West and Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituencies.
The Governor, who pledged to also look into the concerns raised by communities in Gwer, assured the people that their development needs remained part of his administration’s agenda.
He further urged the people to embark on extensive farming, assuring them that the revival of agro-allied industries in the state would provide a ready market for their produce and end losses associated with post-harvest glut.
The Governor said the revival of agro-allied industries, including Taraku Mills in Gwer East, was part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen agriculture, create jobs and expand economic opportunities for the people.
He disclosed that Taraku Mills had been revived and was currently undergoing test-running, expressing optimism that the facility would soon commence full-scale operations. He also commended residents for protecting the machines and equipment at the factory from vandalism.
According to him, the revival of Taraku Mills and other agro-allied companies would provide a ready market for farm produce and reduce losses suffered by farmers during periods of post-harvest glut.
Alia also highlighted the achievements of his administration in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare and social welfare, assuring residents of Gwer, Makurdi and Guma that more people-oriented projects would be executed.
On education, the governor said his administration had recruited 9,700 primary school teachers, adding that arrangements were being made to recruit additional teachers for both primary and secondary schools.
He further assured residents that their concerns over roads, including the Makurdi-Naka and other roads raised by communities in Gwer, would receive the attention of his administration.
On security and the controversial issue of ranching, Alia reiterated that no part of Benue would be given to anybody for ranching, stressing that the state’s land belonged to its people and should remain available for farming and other legitimate uses.

He said his administration would sustain efforts to tackle insecurity until peace was fully restored across the state. He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Nigerian Army 5 Division, with its headquarters in Makurdi and deployments to strategic locations.
Alia thanked the people of Gwer East, Gwer West, Makurdi and Guma for their support for his administration and the Tinubu government, urging them to sustain the support and renew their mandates in 2027.
The governor had earlier met with traditional rulers and religious leaders in the two federal constituencies before proceeding to separate town hall meetings involving political leaders, government officials and other stakeholders.
In Gwer, the Chairman of Gwer East Local Government Council, Timothy Adi, received the governor on behalf of the people, while the Commissioner for Land and Survey, Pastor Frederick Ikyaan, commended the administration’s achievements and pledged the constituency’s support for Alia’s re-election.
A former governorship aspirant, Hinga Biem, also praised the governor for reviving Taraku Mills and executing other projects in the area. He, however, appealed for the construction of the Makurdi-Naka and Aya-Mbalom roads, assuring the governor of the people’s continued support.
In Makurdi/Guma, the Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area, Apev Keffi, thanked the governor for projects executed in the area, particularly efforts to improve security. He appealed for motorcycles to assist security personnel operating in difficult terrains.
The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Alfred Emberga, said Alia had achieved more in Makurdi and Guma than previous administrations, urging APC aspirants to remain loyal to the governor and assuring him of the people’s support in 2027.
Former Speaker of the Assembly, Dave Iorhemba, also commended the governor for his achievements across the constituency and pledged the people’s support for the 2027 elections.
APC State Chairman, Chief Benjamin Omale, thanked residents for their sustained support for the party and the Alia administration, urging them to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, also urged the people of Minda to remain firmly behind Governor Alia, stressing the importance of unity and collective commitment to the success of the administration beyond 2027.
