Theatre Commander Joint Task Force Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar has refuted claims of terrorists attack on a military base in Borno last weekend.
Gen Abubakar, in a message to journalists in Maiduguri ,yesterday, said the reported Boko Haram attack on military base at Kirawa, took place in Cameroon and not in the Nigerian territory as reoriented by some news outlets.
Terrorists believed to be Boko Haram attacked Kirawa, a town in northern Cameroon late Saturday. The Cameronian town shares similar name with Kirawa, a community in Gwoza Local Government of Borno State located southeast of Maiduguri, the state capital and around the border area with Cameroon Republic.
The terrorists destroyed some military operational vehicles and equipment at the military base in the area according to sources. .
They also abducted a few girls. The Theater Commander insisted the weekend attack on military troops occurred in Cameroon’s Kirawa and not in the Borno’s town.
“It’s the Cameronian base at Kirawa that was attacked not the Nigerian troops,” the Commander disclosed in a message.
Media reports claimed the terrorists abducted some girls in the attack and destroyed military equipment.
