Gunmen have abducted the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Abdullahi Beli, amid growing concern over attacks on communities in parts of the state.
Beli was abducted from his village on Monday evening, shortly after returning from a party function in a neighbouring community.
Witnesses said the gunmen stormed Beli village, near Zarewa town, shooting sporadically before whisking the APC chairman away.
Kano State APC Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Sojo, confirmed the abduction to journalists on Tuesday, saying Beli remained in the custody of his abductors.
“The party chairman was whisked away from his family in Beli village and he is still with his abductors,” Sojo said.
He said security agencies had deployed a rescue team to the area following a formal report of the incident.
As of press time, security agencies in the state had yet to issue a formal statement on the abduction. The incident came amid concern over recent attacks in parts of Kano, including communities in Garun Mallam, Rogo, Bebeji and Gwarzo local government areas.
Reacting to the security situation, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in the state, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, called for urgent action to prevent bandits and kidnappers from gaining a foothold in rural communities.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo expressed sympathy with victims and families affected by attacks in Chiromawa in Garun Mallam LGA, Beli in Rogo LGA, Bebeji and communities around Gwarzo LGA.
He described the attacks as “a disturbing threat to lives, livelihoods and economic activities,” warning that residents should not be forced to abandon their homes, farms and businesses.
“The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and must be treated as an immediate priority,” Gwarzo said.
“Every life lost to banditry is a painful reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture. We must not allow our people to become prisoners in their own communities.”
He urged security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations in vulnerable communities and strengthen rapid-response mechanisms.
Gwarzo also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies, saying timely intelligence could help prevent attacks and facilitate the rescue of abducted persons.
He prayed for the repose of those killed in recent attacks and the safe return of abducted victims.
