Relief may soon come the way of some of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from various communities in Katsina State as the government in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) yesterday initiated a housing unit for the IDPs.
Located in Jibiya, Jibiya Local Government Area( LGA),which is one of the hotbeds of terrorists’ activities in the state, Governor Umaru Dikko Radda noted that the initial 152 units of houses constitute “one of the steps tailored towards addressing the housing needs of vulnerable communities in the area.”
According to him,“the project, designed to respect local culture and traditions, will feature essential infrastructure including connection to the national grid, a skills acquisition centre, drainage networks and road connectivity.
“We are not just building houses, we are rebuilding lives.
“This project is part of a larger initiative to support 2,000 families from eight frontline Local Government Areas who have lost loved ones to criminal activities. “Our goal is to provide not only shelter but also opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.”
Also speaking at the ceremony, The Head of the UNDP for the North-West, Ashraf Usman, reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to partnering with state governments in the region. As he put it, “our collaborative efforts aim to address the root causes of challenges facing the region,b and we are focused on mobilizing timely, collective action within and across states, as well as between states and the Federal Government.”
