The Sun Nigeria

Terrorism: Soldiers as undertakers in Plateau

This is the third outing. It’s still on our uninterrupted insecurity, back-to-back. Consecutively in the past two weeks. Yet, no stopping. No sign of relenting.

You may disagree. Even vehemently. But this is why. It’s this devastating video clip. It has gone viral. It remains trending with the speed of light. Ferociously too.

Whichever one is your choice. Whether by hearing, watching or reading. Audio, video or on paper. Pastor David Kwa’s narration will break your strongest will.

Trust! It is the highest height of scandal anywhere but Nigeria. Dare it if you care. You will regret it deeply, almost eternally.

Still in doubt? You will freeze cold. Your heart will melt. Your breath will fail you. And you will lose your bearings in all directions. What an unpleasant lot!

That sordid lot did fall on Dong community, Jos North Local Government, Plateau State. The community remains a permanent killing field. The killer Fulani herdsmen’s theatre of war.

They performed another ritual in the area recently. Its conduct was fiercest in mode and operation.

And Papa Kwa is an eyewitness. He will never feel tired or bored. Telling the cruel crude tale several times over.

It’s fairy, fiery and furious. All at the same time and fused into an ugly one.

What a damning combination! But Kwa cares not whose ox is gored or brutally bruised, battered.

He is resolute to make the story stick to our ever-fading memories. So. After observing the mandatory Sabbath. The following Monday, October 13, 2025, he shared his account on Facebook.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, will have plenty of explanations to appease us. The Service Chiefs he supervises are clearly in the eye of the storm. Specifically, the integrity and honour of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAF) are in great jeopardy.

For maximum effect, let’s run over together Pastor Kwa’s narrative as reported. You will be glad we did:

“A Jos, Plateau State-based pastor, Papa David Kwa, reportedly revealed that soldiers contacted to evacuate the corpses of church members killed by Fulani militias had to seek permission from the same group before entering the area to remove the bodies.

“According to a video he shared on Facebook on Monday (October 13, 2025), Kwa said the militants had attacked the Dong community in Jos North LG, killing several people, including a woman and her child who had gone there on a condolence visit.

“He was said to have explained that since members of the community could not enter the enclave to retrieve the corpses for burial, they had asked the military for assistance. Kwa reportedly added that when the soldiers arrived, they had to call the militants to seek permission to enter the area and were granted only 10 minutes to carry out the evacuation.

“The pastor was quoted as expressing surprise that the soldiers needed to contact the militants before moving in to recover the bodies of those who had been killed.

“He also said: ‘In my presence, they called the Fulani people, and they responded that they gave the soldiers 10 minutes to go in, and take the corpses.

They gave the soldiers 10 minutes only.

“’We were at the burial ground waiting for the corpses to bury them.

“‘Even when they got to the place, the soldiers were telling our people to be fast as they had only 10 minutes to evacuate the bodies.’

“He said when the corpses were finally brought, the soldiers left immediately, leaving them unsure whether they had been abandoned to be killed by the attackers or not.

“He added that, by the grace of God, they were able to conduct the burial and then return to their various homes.”

What a queer narrative narration! Where do we go from here? Even under President Bola Tinubu? Have we sunk this deep, hopeless and messy?

Why can’t Tinubu act completely different from the late Muhammadu Buhari on insecurity? Is this not an eerie allegiance to the dead and the rotten?

Tinubu should act divinely. He should do a new thing. And let it spring forth now. We are waiting with bated breath to perceive it!

Sadly and funny enough. It’s 11 solid days and nights after Kwa’s expose. Nothing sensible has been heard. Not from the government, nor its highly implicated security agencies.

Nobody has been called to serious questions. No one deemed it to interrogate Kwa’s narration. All have been muted. Deaf and dump. They refuse to say a word. Even if it’s their known lying thought processes. They ignore us to our fate. And erode our remaining faint faith in their security architecture.

They have demonstrated to us in clear terms. Unambiguously, we’re not safe anywhere. They  have further exposed us to ridicule.

All along. Since the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Our military has been confronting insecurity in the opposite direction. They have been in unholy collaboration with Fulani killer herdsmen.

Fighting against us with our resources. They’re reaping bountifully from insurgency. No wonder. We can’t see its end in the farthest distance. Terrorism has become a cash cow. The most lucrative sub-sector of our fragile and dangling economy.

Buhari despicably took us to the most unthinkable height. He gave his Fulani kinsmen tactical support, openly. History will continue to credit him for his evil acts against us. We can’t wish this away from him either.

He led us into it this deep. He came with vengeance and for revenge. And throughout the dark eight years he happened to us.  He took his pound of flesh from us. Almost on a daily basis.

We thought Tinubu would put the needed huge stop to it. More so. When he arrogantly insisted: “Emi lokan.” “It’s my turn.” As if Nigeria is the family property of any bloody body.

But he thought otherwise. Believing for the wrong reason that we don’t deserve a respite. Since he started riding on us on May 29, 2023. Things have never remained the same positively. He has fallen us apart, divided. He’s still riding us rough, harsh and hard.

And the military is being gracious to us. It is adding its own impetus, unsolicited. Our military is unrelenting in the reverse.

It has assumed a dishonourable role. A disgusting feather to their cap. They are in transmission. Abdicating their mandatory role. They’re in the verge of becoming our undertakers.

When terrorists strike as usual. The military now wait patiently. Until the deed is perceived to have been thoroughly done. The terrorists vacate the scene satisfied. Soldiers show up and wait for orders from terrorists.

If order is late in coming. Or it seems it won’t come at all. The soldiers become jittery, panic, confused and directionless. They wonder into the wild winds: Have they lost favour with the terrorists?

To make urgent ammends. They hurriedly put a call to the terrorists. Seeking express permission to moving in. Clear the slain of their corpses. And prepare them for a befitting mass burial.

Once the necessary go-ahead is in their kitty.  They swing into action. And within 10 minutes they are done. In panic to beat the terrosts’ deadline. They roughly hand over the dead to their bereaved families. And vacate the scene as ordered by terrorists.

That’s the import of Kwa’s tale on the Plateau. Government through its security agencies. Giving tacit support to terrorists, bandits and insurgents. To kill, maim and rape its citizens it takes oath to protect. The essence of its being in government and power.

It’s crude; it’s fake. The sustainability of this giant contraception tagged Nigeria is increasingly becoming a massive impossibility. It is an unimagined embarrassement. And in all its ramifications. It must not continue an inch.

We have pretended this long much. We’ve feigned ingrance many times over. We have encircled this mountain more times than enough. Aren’t we tired, worn-out?

Let’s wise up. Let’s go back to our vomits. It’s still honourable doing so. Restructuring is it!

And parliamentary system of government the ultimate. It’s doable, effective, efficient, simple, cheap and richly result-oriented.

Free of deceit, falsehoods, grandstanding, pretence and their cousins. Our present and unending misfortunes.

Let’s flee from them.

Gale of defections won’t go away

Our destination under President Bola Tinubu: Four years beyond 2027. That is their renewed agenda for us. They vowed, that’s our unpleasant reality.

But, faithfully with wisdom. We pray theirs is minus God factor.

So? Let no one be swayed. Let none be scared either. Mass defections of prostitute politicians! Particularly, of the People Democratic Party (PDP). To the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It happens often at odd times like this. It is aptly christened  politics of desperation. Survival of the laziest, weakest and the faintest at hearts. And they are in growing legion in Nigeria.

It’s an unkind  signal of a collapsed governance. Where checks and balances cave in. And are walked on their heads.

Then, recklessness and rule of might hold sway.  In awkward times like this. And weird and wild clime as ours. It’s one major indicator of a perilous time. We enjoy watching them dance naked in the village square.

Be calm. Be still. Let’s endeavour to keep our fragile fingers crossed. Water must find its level. It’s given.

It’s a matter of time.
