Terrorism: FG launches 14 MRAP vehicles to boost counter-insurgency operations

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), on Tuesday unveiled 14 ViniApex Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles to boost the effective operations of the Armed Forces in the fight against insurgency and other security operations.

The minister, while noting that a professional Armed Forces requires modern equipment to defeat adversaries, said the unveiling of the 14 ViniApex MRAP vehicles demonstrates the Federal Government’s determination to enhance the safety and operational effectiveness of troops.

He said: “For personnel operating in challenging environments, protected mobility can make the difference between vulnerability and survivability.

“These vehicles will provide greater protection against mines, improvised explosive devices and ambushes while enhancing operational mobility across our theatres of operation.”

The minister, while noting that security challenges in the country have continued to evolve, said the government remains committed to equipping the Armed Forces with the capabilities required to accomplish their missions effectively while safeguarding the lives of those who defend the nation.
