The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Mamudawa Boko Haram sect, as well as four suspected Lakurawa bandits and their logistics suppliers in different parts of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, disclosed this during a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, attributing the successes recorded to collaboration among security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).

According to him, on June 5, 2026, operatives of the Police Mobile Force attached to Illo Division in Bagudo Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence while on patrol along the Illo-Lolo Road, intercepted and arrested three suspected members of the Mamudawa Boko Haram group.

“The suspects, Muhammadu Bandi, Aliyu Abubakar and Muhammadu Abubakar, were arrested while riding a motorcycle to Lolo town, allegedly to procure food supplies for other members of the group.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were linked to movements around the area during the attack that claimed the lives of three Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel in Illo on June 4, 2026. The suspects and the recovered motorcycle bearing a foreign registration number will be prosecuted accordingly,” he said.

Hadejia further disclosed that four suspected members of the Lakurawa group were arrested on June 7, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m. by Police Mobile Force personnel deployed on special duty along the Ka’oje-Bakin Ruwa Road in Bagudo Local Government Area.

The suspects were identified as Haruna Abubakar, Abubakar Lawali, Anme Shehu and Yahaya Shehu.

According to the police commissioner, the suspects are being investigated over their alleged involvement in armed banditry activities within the SODA Forest in Bagudo. He added that the case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi.

The command also arrested one Murtala Sani of Zazzagawa Village for allegedly providing logistics support to Lakurawa members, including foodstuffs and soft drinks.

“He was also observed on several occasions conveying one Amadu Umar, a suspected member of the Lakurawa terrorist group, from Zazzagawa town to a suspected criminal enclave.

“The suspect is currently in custody and is assisting the police in ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending other suspects still at large,” Hadejia said.

The commissioner further disclosed that police operatives rescued a housewife, Asmau Isah, from a gang of kidnappers. One suspect, Abubakar Siddi, was arrested in connection with the crime and will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, the command arrested Ayuba Ibrahim, a resident of Bakin Ruwa in Bagudo Local Government Area, for allegedly providing support to criminal elements operating in the area.

“During investigation, operatives recovered one pump-action rifle, three live cartridges and a bag containing items suspected to be linked to criminal activities from his possession. The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue,” he said.

Hadejia also disclosed that one Aliyu Jibrin was arrested in Kwakware Village, Arewa Local Government Area, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him.

The commissioner commended the cooperation of security agencies, vigilante groups and the Civilian JTF, describing their collaboration as vital to the ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry in the state.
