There is anxiety in Kogi West Senatorial District over alleged plans to upturn Senator Sunday Karimi’s victory at the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primary.

Daily Sun learned that some youths are planning a protest across the West District, following speculations of a replacement with that of a former member of the House of Representatives who had earlier withdrawn from the race along with Senator Smart Adeyemi.

A source said following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, Karimi secured the APC ticket for Kogi West.

‎This followed a tense period when political stakeholders and supporters in the state clashed over an alleged plot to impose alternative candidates, including former federal lawmaker.

Anxiety enveloped the district before the plot by few government appointees to arrange a consensus endorsement for the former lawmaker collapsed, that was after the president’s intervention  restored calm.

According to a source, the political standoff was ultimately defused when President Tinubu expressed his backing for Karimi. “In the interest of the party’s peace, this former member of the house of representatives publicly announced his withdrawal from the senatorial race.

Following the withdrawals, the APC conducted its primary elections, confirming Senator Sunday Karimi as the party’s official candidate for the 2027 general election. The stakeholders want Karimi to have a second term and their wish should be respected. “
