Staff and patients of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, have been thrown into fear following rumours that terrorists were about to attack the complex and abduct medical workers.
The rumours, which became rife in the late hours of Tuesday, heightened tension in the hospital with some patients begging to be discharged.
However, the hospital management, in a statement, yesterday, described the reports as misleading, insisting that the hospital remains safe and fully operational.
The management explained that the memo referenced in the report was an internal communication meant for routine security briefing of staff.
The management emphasised the need for vigilance among workers in view of the prevailing security concerns.

The hospital management, however, dismissed claims of unrest, stressing that there was no tension within the facility.
“There is no form of tension within the hospital. Staff and patients are carrying out their normal activities and all clinical services are proceeding without disruption,” it said.
The management urged members of the public to disregard what it described as sensational reports capable of causing panic.
The management urged the public to disregard any misleading information capable of destabilising the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state.
It added: “The hospital remains safe, fully operational and committed to providing quality healthcare services.”
While reassuring staff and patients of their safety, the management urged all those seeking medical care not to be scared as the doors of the hospital remain open to visitors and impending patients alike.
