Tension as one corpse is found in Delta

death

From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

Less than 24 hours to the presidential and national assembly elections, tension is building up at Ugbolu, near Asaba, the Delta State capital.

This followed the discovery of two corpses of yet to be identified persons in the community.

Local sources claimed that there were heavy gun shots at the sleepy town on Thursday night.

According to the sources, the shootings were allegedly carried out by suspected members of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The separatist elements were said to be demonstrating against holding this Saturday’s election in where they claimed, was Biafra territory.

But the state police command dismissed as rumours the heavy gun shots in the community.

Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Bright Edafe who spoke with our correspondent in Asaba, said one corpse was found and not two.

Edafe said details of the matter were still sketchy but insisted that the reports about the gun shot were mere rumours.

He said the matter was being investigated.
