A misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi, in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State on Monday night has ended in tragedy after a 20-year-old youth, Uwem Daniel Akpan, was allegedly stabbed to death by a 16-year-old boy.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on August 31, 2026. Witnesses say an argument quickly escalated before the teenager allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed the victim.
Uwem was rushed to the Naval Reference Hospital, Calabar, where doctors confirmed him dead. His body has since been released to the family.
Confirming the incident, the Cross River State Police Command said operatives have arrested the 16-year-old suspect, whose name was not disclosed and is currently in police custody.
“The Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged involvement of the suspect,” the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said in a statement.
He added that the case is being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Calabar, for further investigation and prosecution.
“Members of the public are advised to report disputes to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands,” ASP Akata said.
