A French teenager has been charged after police allegedly uncovered plans to kidnap Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, among 25 other potential targets.
According to a report by Le Parisien on Wednesday, the alleged ringleader, Clément L., 18, also known as “Lester Z”, was charged on August 21 in Nanterre with organised gang robbery and other offences.
Investigators say Mbappé’s name appeared on a list found on phones seized from the suspect’s cell.
The list also included wealthy businesspeople and figures from the French rap scene.
In total, 26 people are believed to have been considered as possible kidnapping targets.
Authorities link Clément L. to a series of home invasions and kidnapping plots, with some operations allegedly carried out and others still in the planning stage between April 11 and August 19.

The suspect remains in solitary confinement and pretrial detention.
An alleged accomplice was released under judicial supervision, a decision he challenged on Wednesday before the Versailles investigating chamber.
Investigators are now working to determine how far each plot had progressed and the specific role of each suspect in the alleged gang.
Mbappé, 27, joined Spanish giants Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.
