A global smartphone manufacturer, TECNO has signed a memorandum of understanding with Prince Babatunde Alad, representing the Alade family to build a modern football pitch in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

This is part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR), not only in Nigeria, but also across Africa.

This is also a reaffirmation of TECNO’s commitment to youth empowerment and community development through sports, which it plans to build, renovate and modernise 100 sports facilities across the continent.

In Nigeria, this vision took a major step forward with the signing of MOU Prince Alade, one of Nigeria’s foremost grassroots sports architects and founder of Alade Football Academy in Alimosho.

Before this new agreement, TECNO had already demonstrated its dedication to grassroots sports by funding the renovation of the Sura Underbridge 8-a-side Football Complex in Lagos Island; a development that drew commendation from local communities.

The official signing of the MOU took place in Ikeja, recently, solidifying the partnership to upgrade the Alade Sporting Complex situated at 1, Alade Stadium Road,  Alimosho LGA.

The project aims to deliver a modern football pitch that will serve as a hub for young athletes in the area.

In his remarks, Prince Alade lauded TECNO for investing in grassroots sports, describing it as a long-overdue corporate gesture that would transform lives and reignite youth passion for football.

He revealed that the Alade Football Academy had nurtured notable talents, including Basit Ojediran and Tijani Samson, who represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.

Also speaking at the event, Alade’s eldest son highlighted the academy’s 25-year track record in managing football and other sporting facilities. He expressed deep gratitude to TECNO for recognising their legacy and committing to elevating it.

Representing TECNO, the General Manager of Transsion Holdings Nigeria, Chidi Okonkwo, emphasized the broader scope of the brand’s CSR mission, saying, “TECNO, in partnership with CAF, is building over 100 football pitches across Africa to foster youth and sports development at the grassroots level.

The Alade Sporting Complex is among the five selected for renovation and upgrade in Nigeria.”

TECNO’s Senior Marketing Manager, Vivian Zhang, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to people-first initiatives, saying, “This project is more than infrastructure; it’s an investment in dreams. We want this facility to inspire healthy living, foster community growth and discover future football stars. Our partnership with CAF celebrates today’s champions, while paving the way for tomorrow’s heroes.”

With this partnership, TECNO continues to strengthen its identity as a brand that gives back, empowering African youth through meaningful opportunities and sustainable impact.
