The Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian fintech startup, Galafy, Adewole Akanji, has said technology should not be seen as a threat to Nigerian culture but as a tool to preserve and improve it.
Adewole made this known during the launch of Galafy, a digital gifting platform designed to help Nigerians send and receive monetary gifts during weddings, birthdays, concerts, religious gatherings and other celebrations.
According to him, the platform was created to make the tradition of giving easier, safer and more convenient without taking away the cultural value attached to celebrations.
“Galafy was born from a simple idea: celebrating the people we care about should be easy, secure and accessible to everyone, no matter where they are.
“We’re not trying to replace our culture. We’re using technology to preserve it in a way that fits today’s world and tomorrow’s economy,” he said.
The fintech entrepreneur explained that Galafy offers Nigerians a legal and digital alternative to the traditional practice of spraying cash at events. He said users can send monetary gifts instantly through their mobile phones while every transaction can be tracked in real time.
“Users can legally send digital sprays, monitor every gift in real time and receive monetary gifts instantly from family, friends and supporters anywhere in the world,” he added.
According to him, the platform also supports Nigeria’s drive towards a cashless economy by reducing the need to carry physical cash during celebrations.
He noted that Galafy allows family members and friends, including Nigerians living abroad, to take part in weddings, birthdays and other special occasions by sending gifts instantly from anywhere in the world.
Also speaking, the company’s Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Kolawole Martin, said the platform was built to combine simplicity with security.
“Our goal was to build a platform that feels effortless for users while providing the security, speed and reliability expected from a modern fintech solution. Every feature in Galafy has been designed with simplicity, trust and scalability in mind,” he said.
He added that the company focused on creating a platform that users of all ages could easily adopt while ensuring that every transaction remains secure.
He added that it is also useful for content creators when hosting live streams.
“Available on Android and iOS devices, Galafy enables users to send gifts in real time to newly married couples, event hosts, performers, content creators, family members and friends,” he added.
The company said the platform is expected to make celebrations more inclusive by allowing people within Nigeria and across the diaspora to participate in important events even when they are unable to attend physically.
Galafy aims to transform digital gifting by combining technology with Nigeria’s rich culture of celebration. The company said users could legally spray money digitally, monitor every gift and receive funds instantly while promoting responsible celebrations and supporting the country’s vision of a modern cashless economy.
