The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Yusuf Buba Yakub, has listed the strengthening of Nigeria’s South-South Cooperation agenda as one of the landmark achievements of the agency in the past three years.
Buba stated this while rendering account of his three years stewardship in Abuja. He said that under the current administration, NTAC has continued to strengthen Nigeria’s South-South Cooperation agenda.
Buba also said that the agency’s partnerships with countries across Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, demonstrated that Nigeria’s international influence can be exercised through knowledge-sharing, professional cooperation and mutual development. “The Corps is therefore, repositioning technical assistance not as a one-way relationship, but as a platform for mutually beneficial cooperation. “Our objective is to build partnerships in which Nigeria gives knowledge, receives knowledge and creates opportunities for our professionals at the same time,” Buba said.

He further said that one of the major achievements of the Tinubu administration in NTAC is the revitalisation of the Technical Aid Corps Scheme. Buba added that there is a renewed national consciousness about the importance of technical assistance as an instrument of diplomacy. He also said the Corps has sustained regular deployment of Nigerian professionals to partner countries, while also receiving returning volunteers after successful completion of their assignments.
“In 2026 alone, for instance, NTAC has continued to receive returning volunteers from countries including Uganda, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and The Gambia, among others, demonstrating the continued relevance and vitality of the Scheme.
“These are not merely statistics. Behind every deployment is a Nigerian professional representing our country, building relationships and leaving a footprint of competence, discipline and service,” he further said.
The former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs explained that through the scheme, Nigerian professionals were making impact abroad.
