The 14th edition of the NNPC Ltd. Sports Fiesta concluded in thrilling fashion last weekend at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, with Team Integrity emerging as the overall best team, topping the final medals table of the event.
Team Integrity, featuring sportsmen and women from the company’s Port Harcourt and Benin zones, secured victory with a haul of 31 gold, 18 silver, and 21 bronze medals, and also claimed nine trophies in total.
Team Sustainability, comprising participants from NNPC’s Abuja and Kaduna zones, finished second with 15 gold, 26 silver, and 23 bronze medals. Team Excellence, representing the company’s Lagos and Warri zones, claimed third place, gathering 13 gold, 16 silver, and 19 bronze medals.
During the closing ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, applauded the athletes’ performances, noting that their success exemplified the virtues of resilience, teamwork, and excellence that define NNPC Ltd both on the field and in the marketplace.
He challenged the athletes to meet management’s expectations, stressing that NNPC Ltd looks forward to defending its legendary status at the upcoming 20th Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) in February 2026.
The company boss noted there was substantial evidence that athletes from the fiesta would continue NNPC’s winning tradition: “Let the discipline you showed throughout these games elevate our performance; let the unity you built here strengthen our teamwork; let the excellence you demonstrated become our daily standard.”
Speaking also at the closing ceremony, Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe, observed that, based on the performances at the week-long fiesta, “NNPC Ltd is not just going to participate at the forthcoming NOGIG, but also going to make a strong impression.”
The 14th edition of the NNPC Sports Fiesta, themed “Energy in Motion: Compete, Connect & Celebrate,” attracted 450 athletes, symbolising NNPC Ltd’s belief in the value of physical well-being for enhancing productivity among employees.
Contenders competed in 13 sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, chess, squash, scrabble, 8-ball pool, golf, tennis, table tennis, badminton, swimming, and athletics.
The fiesta also provided a platform to select potential flag bearers for NNPC Ltd at the upcoming NOGIG Games, where the company will defend its title as overall winner – an honour it has held for years.
Also speaking, Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, described NNPC Ltd as a perennial champion of the NOGIG Games, which also feature teams from International Oil Companies (IOCs) and federal agencies under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
During the last NOGIG Games in 2024, also held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, NNPC Ltd claimed overall victory with 50 awards: 20 gold, 9 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
