Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kebbi State has commended the state governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for improving the welfare of teachers in the state.
The state chairman of the union, Comrade Zaki Sarki, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi to mark the 2026 International Teachers’ Day.
Sarki, who expressed the teachers’ appreciation to mark the International Teachers’ Day, commended his colleagues for their perseverance and resilience amid economic challenges in the country.
Sarki, who hailed teachers for their huge contributions to basic education in the state, described them as catalysts for nation-building.
He noted that a country without teachers “is an empty nation with empty technology and science”, saying that teachers produced doctors, nurses, engineers and entrepreneurs who run the country and the economy of every nation.

According to him, “We salute teachers’ resilience who, despite economic challenges, refused to abandon their classrooms. So, today is your day and we celebrate you as you mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.”
On the sidelines, however, the state NUT chief used the occasion to commend the teachers’ governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for his glaring concern for Kebbi teachers through improved remunerations, provision of teaching aids, construction of new classrooms, renovation of existing classrooms and recruitment of teachers to revamp basic education in the state.
He urged teachers in the state to reflect on their invaluable contributions to classroom teaching with a view to improving it for optimum performance.
Sarki assured Kebbi teachers that NUT will stand with them through thick and thin, and will continue to strive to ensure that all their rights and privileges are given to them through holistic and lawful engagements with concerned authorities.
