TCN explains why Ogun is in total darkness

From Isaac Anumihe, Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the towers located in the Obafemi Owode area of Ogun State have been massively vandalised, a situation that put the area in total darkness.

According to the General Manager (T) Lagos Region, Engineer Mojeed Akintola, the collapse of the towers, was discovered yesterday after a tripping was recorded.

To this end, a team was dispatched to trace the fault and it was discovered that there were collapsed towers.

As a result, Abeokuta and its environs are presently out of power supply.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to supply bulk electricity through an alternate line, to enable Ibadan DisCo to distribute electricity to its customers whose supply is affected by the incident.

However, the general manager has condemned the activities of vandals, stating that their nefarious acts negatively impact the grid expansion efforts of the company. Also, resources that would have been used to further improve the grid infrastructure in Ogun State would now be used to replace the vandalised towers.

In a statement, General Manager, Public Affairs of TCN, Ndidi Mbah has appealed to the host communities to work with TCN to protect the common national assets.
