Taraba govt urges NEDC to fix collapsed bridge

Taraba State Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali, on Thursday requested the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to intervene on the collapsed Namnai bridge along Jalingo/Wukari Federal Highway.

Alkali who made the request when he received the management of the NEDC on a courtesy visit to his office in Jalingo, said that the collapsed bridge was on the highway that linked the North East and the Southern parts of Nigeria.

He stressed the need for a quick intervention on the bridge due to its strategic significance and advised the commission to consult the state before allocation of projects, adding that the state officials would determine the needs and priority of projects being cited for the people.

The deputy Governor commended the commission for it provision of massive infrastructure in the state, urging the commission not to fail the people of the state

Earlier, Alhaji Goni Alkali Managing Director of the commission said that they were in the state as part of their oversight and to inspect projects in the state.

Alkali said that the inspection of the projects is to ensure early completion and quality of work and assured the government that the commission will provide it with all information that bordered on completion of the projects and handling over to the state government.

Our correspondent recalls that the Namnai bridge, linking Wukari and Jalingo collapsed due to massive flood in the state recently.
