A fatal road accident along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway has claimed the life of a dispatch rider after a diesel-laden tanker rammed into him, with the driver fleeing the scene immediately after the crash.

The incident occurred around the busy Cele Bridge corridor, where the tanker reportedly collided with the motorcycle, trapping the rider beneath the heavy vehicle and killing him on the spot.

According to Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the impact was severe, leaving no chance of survival for the victim, whose identity had yet to be confirmed at the time of reporting.

Officials of the agency quickly moved to secure the area, deploying safety cones and caution tapes to prevent further accidents and manage the steady flow of traffic along the expressway.

In a troubling turn, the tanker driver abandoned the vehicle and absconded, prompting authorities to launch efforts to track him down, while the truck has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

The body of the deceased was later recovered from beneath the tanker and transported to a morgue in Yaba by police operatives.

Reacting, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the incident as avoidable and extended condolences to the victim’s family, urging a thorough investigation to ensure the fleeing driver is brought to justice.
