A coalition of Civil Societies in Osun State, The Osun Masterminds (TOM), has called on President Bola Tinubu, to take urgent action and bring an end to the hardship plaguing the nation.
Speaking at the monthly “State of the State” address in Osogbo, yesterday, the Executive Director of TOM, Prof Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, lamented that the current cost of everyday items are going out of the reach of the average Nigerian.
The group also called for immediate return to a true federal system, saying that the Federal Government has amassed excessive powers to itself that it has become hard for the federating units to govern as efficiently as the federal system should allow them do.
Commenting on the operation of the Osun State House of Assembly, the group alleged that the assembly has displayed lack of accountability and response to public outcry for failure to act on several petitions and accountability demanded from its leadership.
“We charge the state House of Assembly to be alive to her duties and know that it is part of her responsibility to respond to letters and petitions written to her. No society thrives on impunity and lack of respect for the people with whom lies the ultimate power,” the group said.
On the distribution of 31 tractors to farmers by Governor Ademola Adeleke, the group lauded the programme and advised the state government to come up with a comprehensive policy framework for agriculture in the state.
“This remains the only permanent solution, to give specific direction towards agricultural production, especially, seeing how several piecemeal effort of the past have not yielded any significant result, while scarce resources are being utilised.
“In addition, we demand from the state government, the cost of each unit of the tractor procured, for accountability sake, so the people can know the true worth of what the government has done for them,” the group said.
