The Chinese Government, has told the United States that the Taiwan question is China’s internal affair that needed no external interference.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, stated this while briefing journalists in Beijing, China.
Guo was responding to a question that United States officials believed the likelihood of China invading Taiwan before 2028 was getting increasingly low.
Reuters, had on October 1, 2026, published a report titled ‘US sees Chinese invasion of Taiwan unlikely next year despite 2027 timeline.’
In the exclusive report, the medium stated that United States officials believed a Chinese invasion of Taiwan before 2028 is increasingly unlikely despite Chinese President Xi Jinping’s instructions for his military to be ready by 2027 to take the democratically governed island by force, if needed.
“The main reasons include delays in military readiness amid the Chinese Communist Party’s anti-corruption campaign, as well as Beijing’s eagerness to see the results of Taiwan’s 2028 election, which some Chinese officials hope could usher in a government more amenable to bringing the island under Chinese control,” Reuters stated.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson however said resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people that needed no external interference.
“The Taiwan question is China’s internal affair. Resolving the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese ourselves that brooks no external interference.
“The U.S. side needs to implement the important common understandings reached at the meeting between the two presidents, abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and act prudently on the Taiwan question,” Guo said.
On the two F-16V fighter jets recently purchased by Taiwan from the United States and its plans to receive another 64 within the year, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said China’s position is clear.
“We remain firmly opposed to U.S. arms sales to China’s Taiwan region,” he stated.
