The All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva has slammed Bayelsa State governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Douye Diri for incompetence and cluelessness on developing Bayelsa State.
Sylva speaking to a mammoth crowd of supporters at Southern Ijaw stated that Diri lacked the capacity to improve the standard of living of Bayelsans.
According to him, the incompetence of the Diri’s administration and the PDP has brought poverty, hunger, unemployment and infrastructure dearth to the state.
Sylva while lamenting that Diri lacks a well-articulated development blueprint on how to turn around the fortunes of the state, added that this was the reason why he has offered himself to govern the state because he has the experience, exposure and network to outperform Diri.
“The problem in Bayelsa State is that of poverty. People do not have money in their pockets because most people do not have jobs. Most of them are able bodied, they have skills, they are educated and qualified but no work.
“We must make sure that Bayelsans have work because this is one aspect of human capacity development. We will give work to our people, we will empower our people, we will educate our people, we will give scholarships and we will pay bursary.
“I have the standing and the exposure and I can surpass Diri by far. Frankly, if it’s something I can laugh about, I would have done so because; he is confused. But why I can’t laugh is because people are dying, people are hungry because of your confusion.
‘’So, when I see the lack of capacity of the man, I have to come to contest the election to make life better. I want to assure you that if you vote for me and my deputy your lives will never be the same again.”
Meanwhile the APC has appealed to its supporters and Bayelsans to remain calm as the Judiciary would ensure the party does not suffer the marriage of justice.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the State Campaign council, Mr Perry Tukuwei in a statement reacting to the delisting of Sylva’s name from the list of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) said there is no cause for alarm as its lawyers are on top of the situation.
‘’The Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Campaign Council hereby urge our dear Bayelsans not to be deterred with recent happenings in the polity as we match towards the victory post at the November 11 Governorship Election.
‘’We are clearly miles ahead with a well thought out Renewed Hope for Bayelsa agenda as well as resounding successes recorded in campaign activities across communities culminating in the decision by people of the state to look the way of Chief Timipre Sylva and Joshua Maclver as the next Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.
‘’Our dear Bayelsans, do not fear. Do not be discouraged. We are on course with no distractions. Our lawyers are very well on top of the situation as we expect victory at the Court of Appeal.
