•Man stabs pregnant wife to death

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have reportedly killed three Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.
Chairman, Agagbe IDPs camp in Gwer West LGA, Mr. Terna Ibaa, who made the disclosure to newsmen, yesterday, said the men went fishing on Monday, when they were ambushed by the armed herdsmen and killed in cold blood.
He said the victims include Iorhemba Cletus, Igbahemba Abua and Akaa Clifford. Jacob said the trio had gone fishing in Gbange/Tongov council ward of Gwer West and did not return when it was night. He said during a search, a witness informed them that they were chased by armed invaders who opened gunfire on them.
The camp manager added that by yesterday morning, the bodies of the deceased were found after an intense search, and were immediately buried.
Ibaa said: “Yesterday morning, Mr Iorhemba Cletus, 37 years, who resides at Block 2 Room 2 of IDPs Camp, Agagbe left to Gbange/Tongov council ward and two others went to fish, so as to sell and get food and other necessities for his family, and the armed herders killed him.
“His body was found and has been taken to the village and buried. He was from Tse-Nyikyaa in Mbachohon Council Ward. They also killed Akaa Clifford, 50, who was staying in the host community. He had gone to his village to catch fish and sell, in order to provide food and, also, settle medical bills of his sick wife, and the armed herders ambushed and killed him with two others.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to get the report.
Meanwhile, the police in Benue State have apprehended a middle aged man, Matthew Bem, who allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife to death at Korinya, in Konshisha Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
At the time of writing this report, yesterday, details of the incident were still sketchy, but a source from the area, who didn’t want to be named, said the couple had a minor misunderstanding yesterday morning, when he suddenly used a knife and stabbed the wife on her chest.
The source said: “We learnt that the couple had a minor disagreement this morning and the man pulled a knife and killed his pregnant wife. The incident almost sparked protest in the town, but for the quick intervention of the elders of the community, who stopped the youths from meting out jungle justice on him.
“Nobody has been able to tell from the man why he killed the woman. He has remained silent since that morning. But the police have taken him away for questioning and investigation after he was rescued from the youths, who wanted him to have a taste of what he did to his wife.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had apprehended him and were investigating the matter.
She said: “The incident is true and the suspect is in custody for investigations, but I’m still waiting for details,” she said.
