Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have killed two people in a renewed attack in Kwande Local Government, Benue State.

The victims were said to have been ambushed on Saturday while returning from Jato-Aka market to Nzaav community in Yaav Council Ward of Turan district.

Daily Sun Newspapers gathered that the attackers, who were identified as herdsmen, opened fire on the victims and inflicted multiple machete cuts on them.

A former Supervisory Councillor in Kwande LG, Akerigba Lawrence, said that the incident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday, adding  that the bodies were discovered with deep wounds and lying in their  pools of blood.

“This is disturbing. The bodies were badly wounded. It shows that the attacks by terrorists are still ongoing even after overrunning all the communities except Jato-Aka in Turan land. This is nothing, but terrorism.”

Chairman of Kwande LG, Yarkwan Tersua, confirmed the incident. He described the recurring killings in the area as devastating and alleging a religious undertone to the violence.

He appealed for urgent intervention from the Federal Government ( FG), saying  that,” residents are helpless and defenceless in the face of the  repeated attacks.”

Benue State Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Edet Udeme, said she would investigate the matter  and get back with details.
