Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen were said to have destroyed farmlands with crops worth millions of naira, at the Tilengpaat village of Pushit District in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau, on Sunday morning.

Daily Sun gathered that the sad development is coming after similar operations were carried out on other farmlands at the Vodni community of the same Pushit District of Mangu local government area of the state few days after a security meeting between the natives and Fulani nationals, at the instance of the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Mangu local government council.

The National President, Mwaghavul Youth Movement Worldwide, Dawap Sunday Dankaka, told Daily Sun that the suspected Fulani machineries came from about 15 to 16 kilometres, on Sunday, to perpetrate the dastardly act.

He said: “Just to draw your attention to this again, a whole garden was destroyed by the Fulani in the early hours of Sunday, 26/5/2024, before day break at the Tilengpaat village of Pushit District, Mangu LGA, Plateau State. I feel that arrests should be made and people be made to pay for their deeds. Please, something needs to be done about this before it escalates,” he cried out.

A native of Mwaghavul, Mr Enoch Markus,  lamented that suspected Fulani militias came in the evening and started shooting sporadically as the returnees IDPs working on their farms had to run for their lives, leaving the village for a field free operation by the attackers.

“The Fulani herdsmen attacked the Vodni community and destroyed the entire farm lands. The Fulani had travelled 15 kilometres to come and destroy these farmlands. They have earlier said that we will not farm this year, and this is coming after we had security meetings with security agencies and the Fulani,” he angrily stated.

The farm’s destruction comes a day after the marauders carried out separate attacks on Tim Naanle village of Bwai District in Mangu LGA, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and Wednesday, May 22, 2024, and four natives were killed, respectively.

The National Publicity Secretary, Mwaghavul Development Association, Mr Lawrence Kyarshik, disclosed that those killed by the suspected Fulani on two separate attacks, at TIM NAANLE Village in Bwai District, Mangu LGA, Plateau State, consist of a son, father, mother and his aunt, who were left in cold blood after the attacks.

“On 21/5/2024, at exactly 8:42pm, Rinfwang Haruna (20 years) was killed by the Fulani militia. Also, on 22/5/2024, at about 10:08pm, Raymond Sule (father, 38 years), Victoria Sule (his aunt, 42 years) and Disa Sule (mother, 67 years) were killed,” he stated.

The unfortunate situation has continued to frustrate the relentless efforts of the General Officer Commanding 3 Division/Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General Abdusalam Abubakar, who, most often times, step in with some intervention to calm nerves of the affected victims, as he strives to broker peace among warring parties as well as maintain peace within his joint operational areas.

The Spokesperson, Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, when contacted on the unfortunate trend in Pushit District of Mangu LGA in the state, advised victims to always report any incidents to the police closer to them for necessary actions, in other to sustain the fragile peace being enjoyed in the state.

“Have they reported it to the police there? You see, if the affected persons have not reported to the Police Division in the LGA, there is no way I can confirm this; let them always report to the police for further actions, that should be the protocol rather than going to the press,” he advised.
