Gunmen suspected to be cultists loyal to late cult leader, David Gift, aka 2Baba, have killed a former youth leader, Godspower Uwhetu, in Odhiaje community, Ahoada East local government, Rivers State on Wednesday.
Daily Sun gathered that the suspected cultists numbering about five led by Sam, invaded the youth leader’s house about 1a:m, brought him out and shot him dead in front of his house and fled.
Speaking to newsmen, former Public Relations Officer of Igbu Akoh Youth Congress, Hector Ekeakita, said he was informed at the early hours of the day that a former youth leader of Odhiaje, Godspower Uwhetu, was killed by Sam.
According to Ekeakita, before the incident, Sam’s mother was said to have accused Uwhetu of calling soldiers to raid his son’s house,stating that,his son is innocent.
“Since that day, Uwhetu has been on the run; Uwhetu also told his friends that if anything happened to him, Sam should be held responsible.
“Only for us to wake up this morning to notice that Uwhetu has been murdered, this same Sam is one of the 2Baba’s loyalists, who escaped death when security agency attacked their base.”
Ekeakita stated. “The people of Igbu Akoh kingdom is still having shocking news of gunshots on daily basis. As at last week, in odieke-Akoh community, some people’s property were vandalized, their solar light vandalized.”
The former PRO called on the Sole Administrator of the state , the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Air force, and the military residing in Ahoada to come to their aid before the situation would escalate further.
He appealed that : “We are calling on security network in Ahoada to beef up security. We are calling on the police, JTF and the LGA Administrator to fish the boys out who do not want to give peace chance in Ekpeye land.”
Rivers State Police Command has not responded to the question about the incident.
