Suspected cultists kill 3 in Edo
From Tony Osauzo, Benin
The unending cult killings in Benin City, continued Sunday night with three more deaths.
The cult clash is said to have occurred between the Black Axe and the Eiye group, with two of the latest victims identified as Denco and Ariba. They were reportedly killed at a drinking parlour at Igun junction by Igbesanmwan and Oza street off Sakponba Road in Benin.
It was gathered that Denco was accosted by the assailants at the drinking joint, while Ariba was said to have been killed inside his room, which doors he reportedly left open after getting himself drunk.
Sources said another victim was killed at 2nd East Circular area same Sunday night, bringing the total number of casualties to three.
Similarly, a middle aged man was reportedly shot dead inside his car along Upper Siluko road by Textile Mill junction last week by suspects who were said to be avenging the death of their members during last December killings.
The victim, whose name could not be identified at press time, was said to have been driving along the road when his killers pumped bullets through his side wheel screen, killing him on the spot.
When contacted, spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the killings and said details will be made public later.
Recall that no fewer than 30 people including a journalist with the Independent Radio and Television Station and vigilante heads were killed during a bloody cult war between members of the Black Axe and their rival Supreme Eiye Confraternities last December in Benin.
