A suspect, Bashir Usman, has narrowly escaped lynching after he was rescued by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command over an alleged attempt to abduct a five-year-old girl in Kuje.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Adeh said the command received a distress call at about 2:46 pm on October 4 that an unidentified man was being assaulted by an angry mob over alleged child abduction.
According to her, operatives from Kuje Division were immediately dispatched to the scene at Angwan Lado, Kuje Area Council, where Usman was rescued from the irate mob.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was being assaulted by the mob over allegations that he attempted to abduct a five year old child in front of her residence in Angwan Lado,” she said.
The suspect has been taken into protective custody, while investigation has been expanded to unravel his activities and arrest possible accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, condemned jungle justice, warning that such acts are criminal and amount to murder under the law, and that they delay the course of justice.
