…says PDP governorship candidate true democrat
Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
The House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the 2023 general election, Toyin Amuzu, at the weekend, lauded the governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, for his tenacity and doggedness in pursuing the governorship poll litigation to the Supreme Court.
Amuzu, who described Adebutu as a “dogged fighter and a true democrat”, added that the PDP governorship candidate’s love for a better society and the upliftment of the downtrodden cannot be wished away
The Supreme Court sitting in Abuja on Friday had affirmed the electoral victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun and dismissed Adebutu and PDP’s litigation challenging the victory of Abiodun in the 2023 governorship poll.
In a statement signed by the Egba born politician and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Adebutu was saluted for his courage and pursuit of what he deemed wrong to a logical conclusion as allowed by the constitution of Nigeria.
Amuzu observed that “if the struggle which ought to deepen the nation’s democracy and the Rule of Law was faulty by affirming and legitimizing the continued lack of transparency in our electoral system, then the courts would continue to usurp the rights of voters to elect their leaders”.
“Hon. Adebutu has done his own, he has demonstrated a true sense of responsibility, integrity and leadership to show how authentic leaders behave and put service at the forefront of all they do.
“I am so proud of my leader, he is always true to himself, displaying transparency and integrity, and fostering positive relationships with those he is leading. I am sure history will vindicate Adebutu who actually proved that if people lose trust and confidence in elections, democracy will practically be on the life support system”, he added.
He, however, thanked the people of Ogun State, urging them to remain steadfast, re-dedicate and direct all efforts to the well-being and prosperity of the state as he is confident that another opportunity to serve the state will present itself shortly.
Amuzu further encouraged all distinguished leaders of the PDP across the 20 local governments areas of the state, loyal members of the party and supporters, professional bodies, market men and women, business people, traders, journalists, traditional rulers, religious leaders and others who have invested all their energy and resources in the fortune of the party to remain strong and maintain optimism.
“We will not allow this momentary setback to dampen our spirits and resolve to liberate and reposition Ogun State for greatness”, he concluded in the statement.
