Supreme Court nullifies PDP’s Ibadan convention, sacks Turaki-led faction

The Supreme Court has nullified the national convention held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, dealing a major blow to the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the party.

The convention had produced a factional National Working Committee headed by Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties, amid the lingering leadership crisis within the main opposition party.

Delivering judgment in Abuja on Thursday, the apex court declared the convention invalid and set aside all decisions, resolutions and appointments that arose from it.

“The national convention conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, is hereby declared null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” the court held.

The ruling effectively strips the Turaki-led executives of any legal standing, ending months of uncertainty over the legitimacy of the faction’s claim to the party’s national leadership.

By voiding the convention, the Supreme Court has also invalidated the emergence of the factional National Working Committee led by Turaki.

Political observers say the judgment could reshape the PDP’s internal power structure as the party seeks to rebuild ahead of the 2027 general elections.

More details are expected as the full judgment becomes available and party leaders react to the development.
