Reigning African champions Nigeria will take on arch-rivals Cameroon in two international friendly matches as part of preparations for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
According to the NFF media, the Super Falcons, 10-time continental champions, are scheduled to face the Indomitable Lionesses in Yaounde during the FIFA Women’s International Window of February 24 to March 7, 2026. Both teams will clash at the Cameroonian capital on Saturday, February 28, before meeting again on Tuesday, March 3.
Nigeria and Cameroon last met in a pre-WAFCON friendly ahead of the previous edition hosted by Morocco, where the Falcons secured a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said all arrangements have been finalized in collaboration with Cameroon’s football authorities.
“We have concluded everything that has to do with the two friendly matches, in conjunction with our counterpart body in Cameroon, FECAFOOT. Our commitment is to ensure that the Super Falcons are well-prepared to retain their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil,” Sanusi stated.
His counterpart at the Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT), Isaac Mandong, welcomed the fixtures, describing them as an opportunity to deepen cooperation between both federations.
“We are excited about the opportunity to host the Nigeria national team and to strengthen the ties between our two federations through this collaboration,” Mandong said.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 13th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will hold from March 17 to April 3 in Morocco.
All four semi-finalists at the tournament will qualify automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
The Super Falcons lifted their 10th continental crown in Morocco last summer, defeating Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa and hosts Morocco en route to the title.
