The Super Falcons produced a commanding display on Tuesday, thrashing Egypt 6-2 in Casablanca to book their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Needing victory to secure qualification after losing to Malawi and defeating Zambia in their opening two matches, the nine-time African champions responded with one of their most clinical performances of the tournament.

The relentless pressure earned the Super Falcons another penalty after a VAR review, and Christy Ucheibe made no mistake from the spot in the 81st minute to extend the lead to 4-1.
Ghazi struck again three minutes later to score her second goal of the night and briefly revive Egypt’s hopes, reducing the scoreline to 4-2.
Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly extinguished when Nigeria won a fourth penalty late in the match after yet another VAR review.
Captain Rashidat Ajibade confidently converted from the spot in the 91st minute before turning provider three minutes later, setting up Joy Omewa to complete an emphatic 6-2 victory in stoppage time.
Nigeria finished the encounter with 59 per cent possession and a ruthless attacking display that confirmed their passage to the last eight of the continental championship.
The match also produced several disciplinary incidents, with Egypt’s Essam H., Menna Tarek and Nour Abdelwahed shown yellow cards, while Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu were also cautioned. Egypt coach Mohamed Kamal was booked late in the game.
The convincing victory sends the Super Falcons into the WAFCON quarter-finals with renewed confidence as they continue their quest for another continental title.
