Super Eagles’ World Cup hopes fade as DR Congo, Jamaica battle for spot

Super Eagles

Jamaica have advanced to the final of the 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-off, defeating New Caledonia 1-0.

The game was held in Mexico in the early hours of Friday.

Bailey Cadamarteri scored the game’s only goal in the first half, reacting quickly to slam home a rebound.

The Reggae Boyz will now face the Democratic Republic of Congo, who are hoping to get Africa’s 10th ticket to the World Cup.

Recall that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, recently failed in their bid to replace the Congolese in the intercontinental play-off.

FIFA rejected the NFF’s complaint over the eligibility of some DR Congo players, effectively ending the Super Eagles’ World Cup dreams.

In the other play-off semi-final, Bolivia edged Suriname 2-1 and will play Iraq as part of Pathway 2.
