The Super Eagles took one step closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Lesotho 2-1 on Friday in a game that might be critical for Nigeria’s campaign.

Troost Ekong gave Nigeria the perfect start by scoring a penalty after a handball in the Lesotho area, sending the home crowd wild.

Akor Adams later increased the lead with a precise goal, apparently putting Nigeria in charge. Lesotho answered with a goal from Kalake, but the Eagles held on to take the critical three points.

However, Benin Republic scored in their own encounter, leaving Nigeria behind in points and goal difference in Group C.

With Nigeria on 14 points and Benin currently leading the group with 17 points, the Eagles still have multiple options for automatic qualifying.
