Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has officially ended his four-year spell with South African side Chippa United, bringing to a close a chapter that played a defining role in his rise to international football.

The club confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that the Nigerian international requested to leave, despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024. After internal deliberations, Chippa United agreed to grant his release.

In a statement, the club thanked Nwabali for his service and professionalism throughout his stay.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release. We sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for his years of service, dedication and professionalism. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”

Reacting to his departure, Nwabali took to Instagram on Thursday to share an emotional farewell message, accompanied by a video capturing moments from his journey with the club.

“It was more than a family,” the 29-year-old wrote.

“To my lovely teammates, dear coaches, amazing fans and the best chairman in the world. As I stand here to say farewell, I want to say thank you. The memories we’ve shared, the hard-fought victories, the setbacks we turned into lessons these are moments I will carry with me forever.”

He said he was leaving with gratitude and memories that would stay with him for life, stressing that his bond with the club would remain even after his exit.

“I leave with a heart full of gratitude and a lifetime of cherished memories. Even though I may not wear the shirt anymore, a part of me will always remain with this club.”

Nwabali also paid tribute to the club’s chairman, whom he described as a father figure, thanking him for the support and belief shown during his time in South Africa.

“Thank you for the honour of letting me be part of this story. I wish the club continued success and happiness in the seasons ahead. Thank you and farewell. Until we meet again.”

The goalkeeper joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the Nigeria Professional Football League in 2022 and went on to make about 70 appearances for the club. His performances in South Africa helped pave the way for his emergence as a regular name in the Super Eagles squad.

With his exit now confirmed, attention will turn to Nwabali’s next destination, as clubs within and outside Africa are expected to monitor his situation ahead of the next transfer window.
