African football legend,  Garba Lawal has given his verdict on the Super Eagles after he admitted that the Super Eagles led by Eric Chelle do not have the character and spirit to win the 2025 AFCON, as he stressed the importance of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Morocco will host the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations from December 21 to January 18.

Garba Lawal told Egypt’s FilGoal.com : “I participated in the Africa Cup of Nations 4 times between 2000 and 2006. It is the biggest tournament on the continent and we must respect it.”

He added, “I wasn’t lucky enough to win the title, but I did win the silver and bronze medals.”

He stressed, “It is important that players join their national teams when they are called up to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, because the absence of stars negatively affects the tournament.”

He concluded, “In Nigeria, we are disappointed not to have qualified for the 2026 World Cup, and we feel that the players do not have the character and spirit to win the Africa Cup of Nations, even though they are a special generation and they must fight for their country.”

Nigeria’s national team was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after losing to Congo in the African play-off for the global play-off.

Nigeria will play in Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations, along with Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
