Nigeria’s Super Eagles climbed to the top of Group C after securing a hard-fought 3–2 victory against Tunisia on Saturday night at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.

The win has also seen the former African champions through to the Round of 16 with two victories in the kitty.

Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria the lead in the 44th minute, rising above the defence to head home confidently. The Super Eagles doubled their advantage shortly after the restart, with captain Wilfred Ndidi nodding in a well-delivered corner from Ademola Lookman.

Nigeria extended their lead when Lookman finished calmly after receiving a timely assist from Osimhen, showing composure inside the penalty area to beat the Tunisian goalkeeper with a low strike.

Tunisia mounted a late comeback, with Montassar Talbi scoring in the 74th minute to reduce the deficit. The North Africans further closed the gap in the 87th minute when Ali Abdi converted a penalty. Despite the pressure in the closing minutes, Nigeria held on to claim all three points.

Earlier in the day, Uganda and Tanzania shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw in the opening Group C match.
