Sultan of Sokoto visits Zamfara, awards scholarship to 20 students

From John Bassey, Gusau

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Brigadier General Sa’ad Abubakar III (retd), has paid a working visit to Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where he pledged to sponsor 20 out of 432 Quranic students at the Ahmad Asha Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, recognising those who excelled in their studies.

The Sultan made the pledge during the graduation ceremony organised by the Emir of Kaura Namoda, HRH Sanusi Ahmad Muhammad Asha, held at Muhammad Asha Theatre in Kaura Namoda Federal Polytechnic.

Emphasising the importance of education and peace, the Sultan described them as inseparable twins, both serving as reliable tools for building future generations who live in unity, love, and tolerance. He remarked, “With educated citizens, lasting peace would reign, and without peace, education cannot thrive. The two are essential if we are to achieve our collective goals as a society.”

He further advocated for community support, stating: “It is the duty of all well-to-do individuals, as well as government and traditional leaders, to assist our youth in all forms of education to secure a better future.”

Earlier, the Emir of Kaura Namoda, HRH Sanusi Ahmad Muhammad Asha, congratulated the graduates and affirmed his emirate’s continued support for the institution’s progress.

“This institution was established in 1961 and has operated under the keen watch of the Sokoto Sultanate,” he noted.

The Emir urged parents to contribute to building a peaceful society by ensuring their children are enrolled in both Islamic and western education, highlighting its role in curbing crime.

He warned, “My emirate will not tolerate children loitering in the streets during school hours in Kaura Namoda. All children must attend school to become responsible citizens who will benefit the state and nation in the future.”
