The management of Ipetu-Ijesha College of Technology, Osun State, have called for a thorough investigation into the death of a 17-year-old student, Olonade Semilore, who was reported to have committed suicide.
The deceased was said to have committed suicide after returning home on 10th September at Isokun, Ilesa.
But, his mother, Elemese Oluwabunmi, said his son was murdered saying “there was evidence of violence all over his body. His cheeks swell and signs of blood were all over him. No test was conducted on his body to claim that he was not murdered. If there is, let them show me the report that revealed he committed suicide.”
However, a statement by the Head of the Institution, Prince Olaniyi Adegoke, on Saturday, described the death of Semilore as unfortunate, noting that there was no record that the deceased took permission before travelling to Ilesa where he was reported to have died.
According to the institution, the deceased was a part one student of Computer Software Engineering, Ipetu Ijesha College of Technology, until his death.
The institution further explained that the bio-data of the deceased revealed that he hailed from Ife-North Local Government in Osun but resides in Ondo town in Ondo State.
“The school would want to clarify that up till this moment, there is no provision of hostel accommodation or hall of residence provided by the school authorities for any student.
“Our findings from school also showed that there was no record that the student took permission from his department, neither from the school.
“The boy was reported to have died in Ilesha in the residence of his mother who had never shown up in the college and is known by any member of the school.
“The school authority is imploring the police and other security agencies to carry out a thorough and diligent investigation into the untimely death of Victor Semilore Olonade to do justice in the matter and punish the offenders, if any, who may are culpable or have hands in his death,”
