…donates food items, cash to 2,000 Ogun residents

A Financial Technology expert, Olanrewaju Daramola, has called on the Federal Government to establish community food banks across the country as part of palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Daramola who observed that the subsidy removal on fuel has worsened the issue of food insecurity in the country, pointed out that if the community food banks are established, they would help in alleviating hunger, build a healthier community, subdue economic hardship and bring people together.
He made this call at the weekend during the official unveiling of his Non Governmental Organization, Daramola Dynasty Food Bank Initiative and donation of food items and cash gifts to over two thousands residents of his hometown, Isara-Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He noted that as an NGO, the Foundation would adopt a holistic approach towards supporting those in need and fostering inclusion among the less privileged in the town.
According to Daramola who is also a certified Structural Engineer, the donation of the food items was the first relief of many other structured engagements to give back to the people of the community of his birth.
He added that the Foundation would be more committed to develop more impactful programmes for the widows, youths, students and nursing mothers in the near future.
“As we grapple with the inconveniences while trying to build a stronger viable economy, it has become expedient to contribute our quota towards making a difference. This initiative is a step for my family and I to extend our little contributions back to our community at this period of economic hardship.
“Everyday, it breaks my heart pondering on how people survive these harsh economic realities. Our aim is simply to show some love and give back to our community by cushioning the effect of subsidy, one of the major problems that have to be dealt with is hunger. Be assured this initiative will not stop here but will be extended to medical outreach, educational scholarships and vocational programmes”, he stated.
In her remarks, the mother of the convener, Mrs. Yemisi Daramola, expressed gratitude to the community leaders for their support and thanked her son for the initiative, emphasizing that “the Daramola Dynasty Food Initiative will continue to reach out to everyone”.
In his goodwill message at the event, a former chairman of Remo North LG and the immediate past Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Adebiyi Adeleye, commended Daramola for the initiative, noting that the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the current economic hardship in the country.
While saying that the convener had a good parental upbringing and also has a heart filled with the people’s well-being, Adeleye further encouraged other well-to-do individuals to emulate the philanthropist by reaching out to the downtrodden in the society, submitting that “growth of the community determines the betterment of the state as a whole”.
