Students, teachers escape death in Lagos school building collapse

Tragedy was averted in Lagos on Monday when a four-storey building housing a school collapsed minutes after it was evacuated in Ogba area of the state.

It was learnt that the incident occurred around 12 noon at 11 Adudatu street, behind County Hospital in the Aguda axis of Ogba.

It was further learnt that the building housed Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College.

According to witnesses, students and teachers hurriedly exited the building after signs of distress manifested.

An X user @Eromosele6 tweeted, “Students and teachers of a school in the Ogba area, on Monday, narrowly escaped death after a four-storey building housing the institution collapsed minutes after they evacuated the structure.”

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services later mobilised to the scene to secure the area and restrict access to the collapsed structure.

Part of the property used for residential purposes remained standing beside the collapsed structure.

No casualties has been reported from the incident.
