The National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW) has warned Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa to stop parading himself as the president of the union, explaining that his four years tenure expired last August.
It noted that no amount of blackmails could bring him back as the NURTW helmsman.
This was contained in a statement titled, “No amount of blackmail can bring Baruwa back,” and signed by the acting General Secretary of the union, Kayode Agbeyangi.
On the roles played by the Ministry of Labour, the NURTW Secretary stated: “It is on record that it was Baruwa who petitioned the ministry to find solution to the crisis rocking the union, and expectedly, the ministry invited the two warring parties to present their position papers. And after the first meeting, Baruwa and his people refused to attend subsequent meetings and the minister felt one person cannot be holding the group/union to ransom, hence the directive that we should set the process of electing new leaders in place and that was exactly what we did on October 5 at the zonal level and October 25 for the national delegate.”
Agbeyangi said Baruwa, in his bid to secure a second term by all means, caused the crisis in the union by circumventing all the known standards and procedures.
He undermined the position of the union’s constitution in his desperate moves. On the role played by the former president, Agbeyangi explained that Alhaji Yasin as chairman of Board of Trustees of the union played his roles and functions as contained in Article 31 of the union constitution, which has been brought relative to the union.
He said members of the union have moved on and Baruwa should stop disturbing himself as no amount of blackmail and name-dropping would return him as president.
